Artificial Intelligence has become an integral part of the computing world these days and the developments in this field has been faster than expected. Despite that most of you are still in notion that AI is still something whose presence is limited only to science fictions. Fortunately, that’s not the reality. In fact, AI is all around us; and powers various common features we have grown used to. These include talk-to-text, automatic photo tagging, spam mail detection, healthcare delivery and so on. Rather Machine learning has grown on to become one of the most popular forms of AI. And that’s what drew Intel towards Nervana. Intel has revealed that the company plans to utilize Nervana’s prowess in Machine learning to improve their Xeon and Xeon Phi range of chips. Until very recently these highly capable chips were limited to workstations, data centres and deployed in crunching complex information. Recently though Intel has decided to make use of these chips in some future laptops aimed at hardcore professionals. Nevertheless, Intel plans to integrate their own Intel Math Kernel Library with the AI backed Nervana Engine. The acquisition of Nervana will help Intel leapfrog itself in the world of cloud computing and help them steer clear of competition. That said, Intel’s increasing interest in Machine learning is something to look forward too. Rather Intel has now joined the elite league of companies including Google, Facebook and Nvidia who are closely working with AI startups to improve the world of tomorrow.
