The Redmi Note 8 Pro was launched in India last month with a 64MP primary camera which already produces some great shots regardless of the lighting conditions, but Google Camera can certainly do a better job. However, due to a MediaTek chipset at the heart of the device, there wasn’t a Google Camera port readily available to use. The good folks at Xiaomi, however, sent across a few devices to the developer committee to help with support and we finally have a working build of Google Camera for the Redmi Note 8 Pro, albeit in the beta stages. The general camera UI works just fine and images taken from the primary camera using GCam app turn out better in terms of colors as well as exposure. Portrait mode works fantastic too, on both the rear and front cameras. You can’t shoot videos, however, and Night Sight doesn’t function in the desired way. It’s progress nonetheless, so you can follow these steps and install the app on your Redmi Note 8 Pro for the time being till the there’s a fully functional build. Do note that we will update the link as and when there is a newer build available, so make you check back often to see what’s changed.
How to Install Google Camera Mod on Redmi Note 8 Pro
The first step would be to download the Google Camera APK from this link. Along with the APK file, you will also need to download the configuration file needed to use the app from here. Once both of these are downloaded, install the APK file and if prompted, make sure you allow installation from unknown sources. Open the Google Camera app that you just installed and head over to the “More” tab on the extreme right. Then go to Settings and scroll down to find the “Save Settings” option. Select it and enter any random name of your choice and save it. Next, head over to your file manager and you should now see a folder named “GCam” in the root directory of your internal storage. Inside this folder, you will find another folder named “Configs”. This is where you need to paste your downloaded config file. Once done, head back to the Google Camera app and double tap on the black portion next to the shutter button to open up a dialogue box. Here. Choose the config file you just copied and hit “restore”. That’s pretty much it. You can now use Google Camera on your Redmi Note 8 Pro and take better pictures, especially portraits!
