Well, they might not be quite as forgiving after seeing the new price of a Surface Pro on Flipkart. At the time of writing, the base model of the Surface Pro was available for Rs 41,990 from the e-commerce portal, a far cry from the Rs 69,999 price at which it was launched. And frankly, at that price point, we think it does not pose a challenge to the Surface Go – it literally kicks it in the teeth. Yes, Surface Go lovers will point out that the Go comes with a newer and on paper faster processor, the Intel Pentium Gold, as compared to the Intel Core M3 on the Surface Pro, but that seems to be the only major edge that the newer Surface seems to enjoy. For, unlike the Surface Go which sports a 10-inch display with an 1800 x 1200 resolution, the Surface Pro comes with a 12.3-inch display with a 2736 x 1824 resolution. This variant of the Surface Pro also comes with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD storage, as compared to 4 GB RAM and 64 GB EMMC storage on the Surface Go. Interestingly, the Surface Go too has a 4 GB RAM and a 128 GB SSD storage variant, but that is priced at Rs 49,999. We also have a feeling that many users will prefer the USB 3 port on the Surface Pro as compared to the USB Type C port on the Go when you consider the limited number of accessories that support USB Type C at the time of writing. The Surface Pro also comes with Windows 10 Professional out of the box, while the Surface Go has the rather more restricted “Windows 10 Home in S Mode.” And finally, there is the clincher for us – the Surface Pro boasts close to a dozen hours of battery life as compared to about nine hours on the Go. Yes, the Go is far more compact and lighter (0.52 kg as against 0.77 kg) but then we feel that users might be willing to put up with the extra grams when you consider the extra display real estate they are getting. No, neither device is designed to set benchmark records or play high-end games, but each is a formidable proposition for anyone who likes to work on the move! What do we think? Well, a colleague summed it up for us aptly: “The Surface Pro is a proper surface with only a slightly inferior processor. The Surface Go is a shrunk Surface in most regards.” Which pretty much makes this a no-brainer for us. Of course, we do not know how long this deal will be around so we would advise grabbing it as soon as possible if you are on the lookout for a super portable Windows 10 machine at a great price.
