The price for OnePlus 7 starts at Rs 32,999, whereas, for the Pro model, starts at Rs 48,999. With that difference in price, it is pretty evident that both these devices are designed to cater to people with different requirements, and for the most part, they seem to do a pretty decent job with that pricing. With almost similar pricing for the OnePlus 6T and OnePlus 7, it would be confusing for a lot of people to decide between both the devices and for some, who already own a OnePlus 6T, whether the upgrade is worth. So to make it easier, here’s a detailed comparison between the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 6T.

Design and Display

In terms of design, both, the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 6T share the same all-glass design with a glass on the back and 6.41-inch optic AMOLED display with the same 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 2340 x 1080 pixels screen resolution, 402ppi pixel density, and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection on top. In terms of other enhancing features, the OnePlus 7 gets an edge over the OnePlus 6T with the inclusion of Video Enhancer, apart from the Reading Mode and Night Mode found on the OnePlus 6T. Apart from that, the two devices also share the same sRGB color mode and the DCI-P3 color gamut.

Hardware and Performance

Coming to the core of the device, OnePlus has upgraded the chipset on the new OnePlus 7, which comes with a 7-nm based 2.84 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with Qualcomm AI Engine and Adreno 640 GPU. The processor is one of the most significant upgrades on the OnePlus 7 from the OnePlus 6T, which packs in a 10nm-based 2.8 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with Qualcomm AI Engine and Adreno 630 GPU. With the OnePlus 7 getting the Snapdragon 855 processor, which offers better performance in gaming, machine learning with faster and facial-recognition, improved video capabilities, and better AR and VR capabilities, the overall performance improvements can be guaranteed with the all-new Snapdragon 855 processor. In terms of other essentials under the hood, the OnePlus 7 comes with 6 GB / 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128 GB / 256 GB UFS 3.0 storage. On the other hand, the OnePlus 6T offers 6GB / 8GB / 10GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB / 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. Although the OnePlus 6T offers an extra 10GB RAM option (on McLaren Edition), it significantly lags behind the OnePlus 7 in terms of storage. As with OnePlus 7, the company is offering a UFS 3.0 storage, which is around 2x faster and efficient, in comparison to the UFS 2.1 storage found on the OnePlus 6T. Another major deterrent for a lot of users when deciding between two smartphones is the battery. Unfortunately, there’s no difference in the battery capacity on both the devices and they come with a 3700mAh non-removable battery with Fast Charging. Another essential these days, user authentication is achieved using the same in-display fingerprint scanner and face unlock mechanism on both OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 6T. To jog your memory, the OnePlus 6T was the first OnePlus device to offer this authentication mechanism, and the same has been retained by OnePlus on the newly launched OnePlus 7.

Connectivity

The OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 6T have identical connectivity specifications with 2×2 MIMO, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4G/5G, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo. Not to mention, dual nano-SIM slot support on both the devices.

Camera

Another major deterrent when deciding to buy a smartphone is the camera. And over the years, OnePlus has been constantly making efforts to improve the image and video quality of their camera and reach a point where their camera can stack up against other major competitors. The OnePlus 6T sports a dual camera setup on the rear (16MP primary Sony IMX 519 sensor with 1.22 µm pixel size, f/1.7 aperture, PDAF autofocus, OIS and EIS + 20MP secondary Sony IMX 376K sensor with 1.0 µm pixel size, f/1.7 aperture, and PDAF autofocus) with dual LED flash. The video capabilities allow for 4K at 30/60 fps, 1080p at 30/60 fps, and 720p at 30 fps, in addition to slow-mo videos in 1080p at 240 fps and 720p at 480 fps. And on the front, a 16MP Sony IMX 371 sensor with 1.0 µm pixel size, f/2.0 aperture, fixed focus autofocus, and EIS. With video recording capabilities that allow for 1080p at 30 fps and 720p at 30 fps. On the other hand, OnePlus 7 gets a huge camera improvement with a dual camera setup on the rear (48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with 0.8 μm – 1.6 μm pixel size, f/1.7 aperture, PDAF autofocus, and OIS and EIS + 5MP secondary sensor with 1.12 μm pixel size and f/2.4 aperture) with dual LED flash. With video capabilities allowing for 4K at 30/60 fps and 1080p at 30/60 fps, in addition to slow-mo in 1080p at 240 fps and 720p at 480 fps. And on the front, a 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor with 1.0 μm pixel size, f/2.0 aperture, fixed focus autofocus, and EIS. That allows for video recording in 1080p at 30 fps, along with the time-lapse recording. When stacked up against each other, the OnePlus 7 comes out as a winner with a much better 48MP + 5MP shooter on the rear, which is a massive upgrade from the 16MP + 20MP shooter found on the OnePlus 6T. In terms of the front-facing camera, both devices offer the same 16MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture and 1.0 µm pixel size. In terms of other additional features, the OnePlus 7 manages to get an upper hand over OnePlus 6T with the addition of RAW Image, Pro Mode, UltraShot, and AI Scene Detection up its sleeve.

Pricing

The OnePlus 7 comes in two variants: 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB and is priced at Rs 32,999 and Rs 37,999 respectively. Whereas, the OnePlus 6T has three variants: 6GB + 128GB, 8GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 256GB which are priced at Rs 37,999, Rs 41,999, and Rs 45,999. Not to mention, the McLaren Edition, which comes with a 10GB + 256GB option and is priced at Rs 50,999.

Conclusion

The OnePlus 6T offers some really good specifications, which, when stacked up against some of the other smartphones out there, showcase an at par (if not better) performance. And for most people, that performance should suffice their daily tasks and even a lot of intensive tasks for that matter. However, for those wanting the best of their device, the OnePlus 7 is an ideal choice. With a powerful processor, capable of delivering better overall performance and a major camera upgrade, the OnePlus 7 definitely stands out superior to the OnePlus 6T in most aspects.
